Mission in Action

West Heights UMC provides organized mission opportunities during the year.

Please check the church calendar for upcoming opportunities.

 Mind on Missions:

Our newest total for food donations to United Methodist Open Door is 13,048 pounds of food through July 31. We have also given 92 bags of hygiene items, 30 bars of soap, 29 packages and 5 boxes of diapers.

September's food challenge for Open Door: Cereal and Fruit. Children need a healthy breakfast to give them energy for a full day of school. Let's see how much cereal and fruit we can bring, paper sacks are always appreciated as well.

Old Eyeglasses... if you have some laying around in drawers and boxes, the Lions Club sends them overseas to give the gift of sight. There is a box on the table where the parish nurse takes blood pressures.

Looking ahead to Operation Holiday: as you begin to go through coats and blankets for the fall and winter, please consider giving the gift of warmth to those who need it. We will be collecting those for distribution in December.

LOVE Wichita A Success

Last Saturday, volunteers from West Heights joined people from 40 area churches in the 2nd annual LOVE Wichita day of service. Our crews cleaned up an alley and abandoned lots near West High School, and teamed with two other churches to beautify the lake shore at Rainbows United. Thank you to everyone who helped make our participation possible, especially Andi Schomaker who assisted by attending the coordinator meetings while I was in KC, even though she would be out of town the day of the event. We will begin planning for next year soon. If you would like to see a video of the event, click here.

We also have one "leftover project" that we will try to complete in the coming weeks. If you are interested in helping paint two ceilings sometime in late May, please let Christopher know and we'll get it scheduled.

The Rock

Our children who attend The Rock have been donating money to benefit Heifer.org. They have raised $260 in the last 2 years. With this money, Heifer International will be able to send the following gifts to communities in need:

1 Sheep                                   120.00
Flock of Chicks                     20.00
Flock of Ducks                      20.00
Flock of Geese                      20.00
Honeybees                            30.00
Undesginated                       50.00
Total                                        260.00

The undesignated gift will be used wherever Heifer needs it the most.
