1993 1993 Worship Caravan was "Spread the Word" Description by destination: Old South (The Haunted Caravan) There were 21-25 youth and 5 sponsors. Youth:? Sponsors:
They traveled 2495 miles. Providing an unknown number of worship services and traveling through some states; They traveled to the following locations: This Worship Caravan is recorded by video only. The narrative that follows is a synopsis of the trip. They traveled to Savannah Georgia and back. They were able to eat at the worlds largest drive in "The Varsity," and were only mildly impressed. The second stop was the Hard Rock Café in Atlanta Georgia, then to an upscale shopping mall. They went to the country home of Caravaner Robyn Longs' grandparents, daughter of Steve and Nancy Long. They had a good old fashioned southern BBQ. Then went to the families church, Concord Methodist Episcopal Church, and presented the service. This was the first year a banner was used. It said "West Heights Youth". In Savannah the youth traveled to the Government Service Church, a huge "compound" and mingled there with the local large youth group. They traveled to Stone Mountain and took a cable car to the top. They toured a plantation museum. Then continued on to tour the Coca Cola Museum in Atlanta, complete with good and bad worldwide samples. They went to a Civil War Museum. Then it appears they traveled to Tennessee and went to an Aquarium/Zoo. They were haunted by ghosts most of the trip but were especially noted while at Kings Way United Methodist Church, Springfield. Tales included sleeping in a home where the owners had found a gravestone in the back yard and now stored it in the cellar accessible only by a hidden trap door and a ladder. Our new Associate Pastor, David Broddle, traveled to Springfield to see the last service of this Caravan. Upon returning to West Heights, the 8:15 Sunday service was held on site then the 10:30 service traveled to Eberly Farms and concluded the 1993 Worship Caravan.
