Do What? It's Your Move Work Zone and High Way Gather in the center of the gym, welcome, introduction of guests, make announcements. For Sponsors: Which way are we moving? 1. Know 2. Which Way Are We Moving Work Zone and High Way Read: The story in Luke 5:1-11 presents the calling of the first disciples - James, his brother John and Simon/Peter. In this account Jesus climbs into Simon's boat to teach the multitudes of people gathered on the shore. After teaching the crowds, Jesus asked Simon to go out to deeper waters to try to catch fish. Simon explained that he had fished all night but caught nothing. Still, Simon agreed to do what Jesus asked, in spite of his own knowledge. He was rewarded for his obedience to jesus with a magnificent catch. Simon's comment to Jesus, "yet if you say so" (Luke 5:5), and his actions to what Jesus asked seems to indicate that he already knew Jesus and had a trusting relationship with him. After catching the boat loads of fish Simon fell to his knees and confessed his sinfulness. The miracle caused the disciples to examine their own lives again. They had know Jesus, but now felt they had seen truth and were beyond just faith. Jesus then told them not to be afraid. Then he said an interesting thing: "From now on you will be catching people" (Luke 5:10). "Catching people" has become a metaphor for bringing people into relationship with Jesus Christ. Tonight we will look at knowing Jesus, trusting Jesus, obeying his commands, and following him. Just as Jesus called the first disciples, he also calls each of us. Pray and Break into Journey Groups Which Way Are We Moving Work Zone Fish Stories Gather in a large circle. Invite a few of the youth to tell a story about them selves. Include at least two true facts and one untrue (fish story). Allow the group to guess which statements are true and which ones are not. After a few have shared, Ask: Have you considered that listening is an important part of interpreting? Have someone explain&ldots;. Say: Recalling prior knowledge can be helpful in the interpretation process as well. Recalling other stories that happened at the same time as the ones you are reading in the Bible is an important technique for understanding the full meaning of today's Bible stories. Have each youth them write down on his or her card as they are called out. Try to get at least ten. (Happiness, sadness, doubt, surprise, anger, confusion, embarrassed) When you have exhausted their brains, have each youth draw a simple face on each side of the paper plates. Say: You have three minutes to draw as many of the emotions as possible, one on each side of a paper plate. Okay! Begin! When three minutes have passed: Read the story again about one line at a time. You won't have to share what you have written with anyone but God. After everyone has moved to the carpet, light the candle and place it and the coffee can in the center. Dim the lights.
