Matthew Moving In Work Zone & High Way Memory test Have everyone in a circle or something like that so everyone will have an ordered turn. Explain: I am going to say something, then you repeat it, then the next person, and so on until it gets back to me. We'll keep going until someone forgets or pronounces something wrong, then that person must stand up and move outside the circle and remain standing. So, if you want to remain seated try hard to make it to the end. Start "One fat hen" all the way around. Then say "One fat hen, a couple of ducks" all the way around. Then say "One fat hen, a couple of ducks, three brown bears" all the way around. And so on. 1. One fat hen 2. A couple of ducks 3. Three brown bears 4. Four long hairs 5. I slit a sheet, a sheet I slit, upon a slitted sheet I sit Congratulate the ones that made it to the end. Explain: We all have to memorize things because it's necessary to have them right when we need them. It's great to know phone numbers, locker combinations, and music. Even Jesus memorized. For example read Mathew 4:4-11 (Hand out) Mat 4:4 But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" Mat 4:5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, Mat 4:6 and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written, 'He will give his angels charge of you,' and 'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" Mat 4:7 Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'" Mat 4:8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them; Mat 4:9 and he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." Mat 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'" Mat 4:11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him. The devil was making temptation attractive to Jesus by asking him to turn stone into bread when Jesus was extremely hungry after his 40-day fast. In the second temptation, the devil offered the world to Jesus through an easy path rather than through God's plan. In the third temptation, Satan tempted Jesus to test God's faithfulness and attract attention to Himself. In all three cases, Jesus had memorized Bible verses so He had them when He needed them. Moving out Work Zone & High Way Needed: Bibles, handouts Share the following story: Imagine your just hanging out with friends, when all of a sudden the most popular dude or dudett in school walks right up to you. They say, "Hi. I've had my eye on you for a while, and I think you're cute. I want to get to know you better. I'd like you to meet me by my locker tomorrow morning. Here's my locker number and the usual time I am there, I'll see you before first hour. Don't keep me waiting! They hand you the note and walk away, giving you a little wink over the shoulder. You open up the note, and it's the messiest thing you have ever seen! The handwriting is so bad you can't even figure out any of the letters or numbers. Ask: What would you do? Would you toss the note and skip the date or would you do all you could to find that locker? &ldots; Allow for responses; then Explain: As strange as it may sound, many people approach the Bible in just the same way as the people who might just throw the note away. They honestly want to have a relationship with God, but sometimes the Bible just seems too hard to figure out. So they leave it on a shelf, and it does them no good whatsoever. The Bible isn't always easy to figure out, but the result is worth the search. After reading, divide into groups to match sponsors. Distribute Bibles, paper and pens; then explain that each of the topics below deals with a different pressure situation. Have each group choose two different topics listed to research and look up the verses for their topic; then write down in one sentence what the Bible says about it. Have sponsors help groups that may have difficulty. After a few minutes, have groups share their results with the whole group.
