7:30-8:15 Open Gym 8:15-8:30 Lock-in Expectations and Limitations Hello, and welcome to Whose Line? Where the points don't count and the winner gets to watch a little somethin somethin with me! Your Limitations are as follows: Do not leave the Church If the area you are in is not climate controlled you are outside the church. No "extra curricular" activities permitted For example, no sucking face with anyone No drinking or drugs No cheating If you are looking for a way around a rule, you are probably about to cheat and had best not attempt any deviations until you reach saint hood. Snacks and drinks are allowed in the Youth Center and the Gym only. If you are in transit between these two locations you may not eat or drink. Do not open locked doors If you have to do anything to a door that is more than just gently opening it, you are probably attempting to open a locked door. Stay out of the rafters If you have to climb to get where you want to go and then you feel yourself having to balance on a beam high above the floor, chances are you are in the rafters. Sleep only in designated sleeping rooms. No hiding, food or drink in designated sleeping rooms
Expectations are as follows: Participate as you can Respect others Listen Clean up after your self If you would rather sit out or go to sleep, let me know where you are going and what you are doing. If you want an extra door unlocked, take the bounce challenge. (Bounce a ball into the net from half court,) The leader may randomly unlock a door from time to time. Don't beg for a door to be opened unless you have passed the bounce challenge. Have a Blast 8:30-10:00 Whoser Planning Group Impressions This will really get them going and requires no equipment or preparation. The larger the group, the better it works. Have your group form two teams. Then stand in front, facing the two teams (one on your left and one on your right). Tell kids that you'll be giving them scenes, and they'll have 10 seconds to act them out. The side that's the most dramatic and creative will receive a million points for each scene. First ask the left side, "Which side can do the best impression?" Then ask the right side the same question. Start with the scene "Teenagers at a rock concert," and then say, "One, two, three, go." After kids act it out for 10 seconds, say "stop" and award the winning team a million points. Then say, "The scariest part of a scary movie." Next say, "You've gotten food poisoning, and you're dying." Follow this up with, "The room has been sprayed with laughing gas, and you can't stop laughing." All these scenarios create lots of noise and laughter. They're fun and require no acting ability. You may be able to think of other scenes to act out. Whose Name is it Anyway Split up the group into 2 teams. (girls against guys is good). Use the room dividers to separate the 2 teams so that the groups can't see some of the others. Both teams decide on one person (a poser) to stand at one edge of the divider. Then they pick a namer to stand at the opposite side of the divider, being careful not to let the other team know whom they have chosen. On the count of 3, the two people from each team step from behind the screen and face their opponents. The first namer to call out the name of the other poser first is the winner. Teams members can only be a namer once. But they can be a poser as many times as his or her team wants. This game is great fun and allows for everyone to remember each other's names. Progressive game - whose strange photo is that anyway Supplies: A digital camera, Computer with power point Form groups of 2-10. Go with one group around the church and take 3-5 of the strangest photos possible. The only rules are that the photos must be in good taste, show concern for safety, and include at least one group member in each photo (all group members must be in at least one picture). No looking at the other teams photos. After all groups have gone to take their photos, download the images to a computer and put them in a Power Point show. Then, present the show in the gym at the end of the lock-in, so all the parents and youth can see as they leave. Pick Your Whoser, Prep time Use this time to decide which "whoser" game you want to present and gather the stuff you need. - sign up to be a "Whoser" at a certain time - find the props - Write scenes from a hat - Write party quirks. - Etc. 10:00-10:30 Lesson Casting Call Materials: Hand out Gather the group together and have them sit facing you. Sit in a chair facing the group and explain that you're the director of a soon-to-be-released major motion picture and you're casting parts for the film. Explain that everyone in the group will have a starring role in the movie. Tell kids that they're going to get to choose the characters they'll play. Kids can either choose from a list you'll provide or come up with their own characters. The only requirement is that teenagers have to explain the reasons for their choices and the similarities between their characters and themselves. Print the following list on a hand out and ask teenagers each to choose a character from the list. Remind kids that they can create their own roles instead. o the man in the white hat o the race-car driver o the woman in white o the computer genius o the villain o the patriot o the detective o the gangster o the comedian o the parent o the rock star o the spoiled brat o the surfer o the loner o the socialite o the Reverend o the sidekick o the mysterious stranger o the fashion plate o the business executive o the teacher o the cop o the jock o the adventurer o the rebel o the artist o the nerd o the servant One at a time, have volunteers share their answers to the first discussion question. Then have the whole group (or small groups) discuss the other questions. Discussion: o If the movie were going to be about our youth group, what would be a good title for the film? Explain. o Which character was chosen most often? Why was that character chosen more than any other? o What did you learn about yourself and the group from this activity? Quick Cliques Say: When I call out a description, find two other people who share that thing in common with you. For example, if I call out, "Same month of birth," try to find two people born in the same month as you. Each group must have exactly three members. Play several rounds of the game, calling out things such as "same eye color," "go to the same school," "same middle initial," and so on. Then ask: How was this activity like how groups are formed at your school? Why did some people get left out when the groups formed? Do people sometimes get left out of groups at school? Say: There's nothing wrong with hanging around people you have things in common with. But there's more to making good friendships than that. Say: When encouraging others a Christian must first decide whose line it is. Ask: What could "Whose Line is it Anyway" mean to a Christian? - Involvement, Compassion, Discipleship, Leadership, Others? Conclude: As we enjoy each other in fellowship tonight, try to remember that it is always your line, your decision, and your life that are a living testament to God. 10:30-11:00 Whose Line Session 1 Group Whoser What are you drawing anyway Description: Divide into several teams. Have the youth sit on the floor (or in chairs) facing back to front in their teams (similar like that of a train). With the group in single file lines, give the persons on the back of the line an object to draw. That person then is to draw the object you gave them (drawn on a small piece of paper, etc.) on the back of the person in front of them with their finger. Then the next person does it likewise and so on and so on until the person in front of the line draws on paper what you gave the person on the back of the line. The first team done and draws the best picture wins! Individual Whosers Name _____________________________ What Game ________________________

Name _____________________________ What Game ________________________ 11:00-1:00 Group Contests Under Ground Church has been a tradition for the youth of West Heights for many years. By mixing this exciting game of tag-hide-and-go-seek-sardines-in-the-dark, a memorable experience should take place and with any luck each time they play it, from here on, it will have a deeper meaning. Materials: Pool Noodles The Game Players are; Underground Church, Followers, or Guards. There is one "Church" (a group of three). The church is given a set amount of time to go and hide. The Church may become the Guards for the next round. There are "Guards" (number depends on the size of the "Church"). The Guards try to keep the church from growing. If a Guard tags a follower the Guard and the follower must go to the jail. To make it more interesting, have a random guard be a "close to conversion." If a Christian wants to get away from a guard, they may attempt to tell them about Jesus, and the guard can, if they so choose, look the other way and let them go. The follower must remain in jail until at least three others are caught. After the third follower is caught and brought to jail the group of followers is free to leave the jail after the count of 50. Give each guard a pool noodle. If they whack you are caught. The "Followers" try to find the Underground Church without being tagged by the Guards or giving away where the Church is. If a Guard finds the Church the round is over. If the Church has 7 members the church may move to a new hiding place. Once the church reaches 20 the round is over and the UNDERGROUND CHURCH has survived! 1:00-1:30 Open Gym and Whoser Planning 1:30-2:00 Whose Line Session 2 Group Whoser Sound effects Description: Divide into groups of 5-10. Give each group a tape recorder and a list of sound effects. The object of the game is for the teams to record the most realistic sounding effects they can produce. They can use their voices or anything they can get their hands on. Let them find their own places to work. After all the teams are finished, gather the group together and play each sound one at a time, letting the group vote for the best one. The sound-bites should be no longer than 10-15 seconds long. And be sure to instruct the groups to announce on the recording which sound they are doing (to avoid confusion) and to leave a space between recordings. Some suggestions: a busy street, a girl lost in a thunderstorm, a forest with a babbling brook, a hospital, a marketplace, a construction site, etc Individual Whosers Name _____________________________ What Game ________________________

Name _____________________________ What Game ________________________ 2:00-3:00 Group Contests Capture the flag tag This game plays very much like capture the flag. First break the youth up into two teams. Now you set up two bases one up and one down stairs in the church. Have all the youth in one spot while sponsors hide two flags, one up, and one down. Teams must concentrate on finding their own flag as well as finding the other teams flag. Youth Dude and male sponsors are "demons" and have unlimited power to freeze all the kids they tag at any time. Female sponsors are "angels" and have the power to un-freeze any frozen kids. Teams may capture opponents, (only on his or her own level) by tagging one at a time, no multi-tagging allowed. The prisoner must be escorted to the capturing teams secret jail by the tagger. Captured players must remain in jail until the end of the game or a rescue is made. If a player from the same team reaches a jail where his/her teammate is, they can rescue them by tagging them. But, during this time, the player trying to rescue them can be captured also. If he/she rescues a teammate, they place their hands on their heads and freely walk back to their base. Only one jail guard is permitted and no closer than 10 yards from the jail entrance. Jails may not be with in 20 yards of a stairway. The object is to find your flag and protect it. Then find the opponents flag and get it to your flag while trying to stay away from "demons" and opposing team members. If the other team or a "demon" tags you, with the flag in your possession the game is over and ends in a draw. 3:00-4:00 SNACK TIME Open Gym, Music, Pizza Hut Pizza & Pop Whoser Planning 4:00-4:30 Whose Line Session 3 Group Whoser Who are you anyway? Description: Put different characters on pieces of paper and tape onto each person's back. They can follow a theme, like Biblical names or cartoon characters or whatever. Then everyone has to go around making comments about who they are meeting and listening for comments about themselves in order to find out what name is on their back. To follow Who's line thinking try, An alligator in a kiddy pool, or just married an orangutan. Individual Whosers Name _____________________________

One Sponsor hidden at each base with life force cards and a riddle. Fingers that make Rock, Paper, or Scissor Teams select one "guide" to go and hide their sponsor anywhere in the church. All sponsors and guides leave at the same time. They have five minutes to find their base, stash their sponsor, and get back to the "Hall of Raiders." Each team member is given one life force card. Teams leave one group at a time, one minute apart as determined by a duel. Member then go out to try and get life force cards from opposing team members by dueling once per meeting. A tag or a handshake means a duel is about to take place. You may not refuse a duel. The winning player gets the other's life force card and a free escape from other duelists for 10 seconds. The looser returns to their base (After asking the guide where) to collect another life force card. Winners may not follow losers with in a line of site. Once a player gets 6 opposing team life force cards then they may attempt to answer "The Riddle" at the other teams secret base within 60 seconds. By presenting their life force card and six opposing team cards they are eligible for the challenge. If they answer incorrectly they loose all the cards presented and must return to their base to get a new life force card. They may share the information they know. Only riddle losers may share life force wins. Play continues until one team answers "The Riddle", one try per player and returns all 7 life force cards and "The Riddle" to the "Grand Youth Dude." The life force cards were like business cards that said, "Whose Line Is It Anyway Life Force" and below that said, "Collect Six Opponents Cards Before trying the Riddle" Here are the riddles we used: I have a body, a neck but no head and two arms but no hands. Comment: A particularly successful game especially when Greg is anchor. A game that has brought out the best in many of the performers, and one that could have been used more often.
Newsflash History: Appearances: 29. 1996-1997-1998/99(US)-1999/2000(US)-2000/01(US) Description: One contestant reports on a scene which he or she cannot see, and tries to guess what the scene is, assisted by two others who are supposedly news anchors in the studio. Comment: A bit of zaniness in most episodes, this is the most played game except for the Credits Reading. Sometimes it fails to fire and you want it to finish, but as the years have gone by the suggestions and the props have both got funnier.
Whose Line History: Appearances: 26. 1992-1993-1994-1995-1996-1998-1999/2000(US) Description: Two contestants are improvising a scene, but have to pull out lines given to them and feed them into the plot. Comment: Another very silly game, but often a very successful one as the actors try to make the lines seem reasonable. Usually worth more than a look.
Scenes From A Hat History: Appearances: 60. 1992-1993-1994-1998/99(US)-1999/2000(US)-2000/01(US)-2001(US) Description: The four contestants improvise scenes read out at random by Clive or Drew. Comment: A genuinely funny game full of great moments. One of the highlights of episodes in the middle of the series, it is now a regular part of the US show. Improvisers like Tony, Greg and Ryan were especially good at a game that could easily be played more often.

Who got Murdered Anyway? Preparation: This game is very simple. Make a room be able to go from pitch black to full light with the flick of a switch, and I'm serious pitch black. Cover up emergency lights and exit signs, unless it's illegal in your area. Game Play: Shuffle and pass out a deck of cards. Make sure that there is only one Ace and one King in the stack. The student who draws the Ace is the murderer, and the student who draws the King is the police officer. When everyone has drawn cards, turn off the lights. The job of the murderer is to walk around amongst the students and kill people by slicing throats with their index finger. If a student "runs into" a dead person they yell out "MURDER IN THE DARK." At this time the lights need to be turned on. If the person killed was the police officer, the game ends. Everyone should guess who the killer is, and if the police officer chooses to reveal him/herself they can make one person show their card. They do not have to reveal their identity. If the guess is correct, the game is over. If not, the lights turn back off. The police officer only gets one chance per round. This repeats until all people are killed, the officer is killed, or the killer is identified. When this is over, take up the cards, shuffle, and play again. Winning: Evidently there is no way to win. The game is incredible fun, and students usually end up playing for hours. Adding Excitement: To add excitement, make two killers or police officers. Cheating: Many students will try to cheat by forming alliances with the killer. They cannot tell what their card is! Also, non-killers will sometimes join the game. Tisk, tisk, tisk. Many students will also trade cards when they know someone saw them. Try to avoid these cheats
What are you Drawing Anyway? Break your young people down into several teams. Have the kids sit on the floor (or in chairs) facing back to front in their teams (similar like that of a train).
How Long Can You Keep It Up Anyway? Get 2 volunteers (you can use more than 2 people if you have enough sets of clothes). The object of the game is to get dressed in the clothing while keeping a blown up balloon in the air at all times. Make sure that the two people have similar items of clothing - for example, a shirt, hat, socks, gloves, sunglasses and a coat. The winner is the first person to get completely dressed without letting the balloon touch the ground.
Who's Got Talent Anyway? Lock in talent show. Divide group into a couple teams. Within a certain time period (1 hour?), each team is assigned to come up with an original video presentation depicting some aspect of their Christian life. Give a 10-minute time limit for each "movie." Later after everyone is done, watch the final product together... Our youth group wanted to watch the videos over and over. The winning video was shown during our youth worship service. Or youth should divide into many groups, from 1 person to many. The object of the game is for each group to come up with a terrible skit or act. Each act is judged. The worst act wins.
Scenes From a Bag Gather various products from around the church or home. We used breath mints, fabric stain spray, a can of pinto beans, a stapler, vitamins, etc. Divide the kids into small groups. The size of the group may depend on the number of items. Aim for four or five in each group. Get more items if needed. Tell the kids to come up with a 30 to 60 second television commercial for their assigned product. Don't tell the other groups what your product is. Give them five or ten minutes to develop their commercial, then begin taking them into a prepared studio (a small classroom is fine) where they will do their commercial. Of course, a leader will be filming with the video camera. The other groups can be working on their commercials or doing another game while waiting for their "studio time."
After all the commercials are filmed, show them on TV to the whole group.
This is ideal for a lock-in. We had lots of fun. The pinto bean commercial was a real "gas."
What's That Spose-t-be Anyway Pull out that old Pictionary game, but use play dough this time. I looked in my concordance for some interesting words and one team actually got "Zarubbabel". The leader holds onto the list of words that everyone will use. A member from each team comes up to get the first word. As each team guesses, they send a new person up who will tell you the word they just got. You tell them either they got it right and give them the next word, or send them back to work on it some more.
Either time the game or play it until one team gets all the words. Remember, no spelling, no numbers, no letters. I allowed charades.
Who's Says That This is a progressive tongue twister.
One fat bible A couple of candles Three white stars Four fast cars Five fancy fillies frolicking freely Six Sicilian Sisters sipping cider Seven boxes of biscuits, a box of biscuit mix, a biscuit mixer Eight is: I like tart fruit and I like tart fun so let's all hoot when the tart fruit comes Nine is: I slit a sheet, a sheet I slit, upon a silted sheet I sit
Seven Eleven Come up with a category such as "Famous Cats". The player must come up with the names of 7 famous cats in 11 seconds.
Skit in a Bag Divide the group into groups of 4-5. Have a brown grocery bag full of funny, misc. items you find around your house for each group. Have one member of the group come up and pick a bag, but they are not allowed to know what is inside it. Say "go". They take the bag back to the group and come up with a skit from the Bible that uses every item in the bag. Bags usually contain about 5-7 items. Things like a comb, an apple, a stuffed animal. randomly select silly things from your garage or living room the kids can be creative and have fun at the same time. (If you have a group of young people who are young Christians you may have to help them chose a story or divide the group so that the number of Bible scholars are even.
Sound Effects Divide into groups of 5-6. Give each group a tape recorder and a list of sound effects. The object of the game is for the teams to record the most realistic sounding effects they can produce. They can use their voices or anything they can get their hands on. Let them find their own places to work. After all the teams are finished, gather the group together and play each sound at a time, letting the group vote for the best one. The sound-bites should be no longer than 10-15 seconds long. And be sure to instruct the groups to announce on the recording which sound they are doing (to avoid confusion) and to leave a space between recordings. Some suggestions: a busy street, a girl lost in a thunderstorm, a forest with a babbling brook, a hospital, a marketplace, a construction site, etc
Who Licked it Fastest? Ask for two volunteers or pick a boy or girl. (this game works pretty good if a boy likes a girl and she does not know it or vis versa). You get the piece of plexy glass (needs to be sturdy, and needs to be clear). You place a glob of peanut butter on both sides of the glass. Put as much as you like, but make sure it doesn't drip. Then give them 1 minute to lick as fast as they can and the side that is the cleanest wins. (They have to keep their eyes opened at all times.
Who's Name is it Anyway Split up the group into 2 teams. (girls against guys is good). Use blanket or large canopy to separate the 2 teams so that the groups can't see each other. 2 volunteers will hold a divider up. Both teams decides on one person to quietly go up to the very front of the divider to be poised in any position just as long as they are right in front of the divider. Then they pick a namer to stand right behind the poser. On the count of 3, the divider is dropped and the namer to call out the name of the other poser first is the winner. Teams members can only be a namer once. But they can be a poser as many times as his or her team wants. This game is great fun and allows for everyone to remember each other's names.
Who Are You Anyway? Put different characters on pieces of paper and tape onto each person's back.
Who Are You Anyway (round two)? Divide into two teams. Each team will select actors to represent their team. Put descriptions on cards of a character they need to play when coming to a party. Each team then takes turns coming to the door, entering and acting as if they were the character handed to them at the door. His or her teammates then have one minute to guess who they are for a point. After several rounds the team with the most points wins.
Who's Point Was it Anyway Setup: Use half of the gym. Set partition dividers from the basket towards the free throw line. When you're done, the playing field will have the basketball net centered over the dividers. Each side needs a case of toilet paper.
Playing the Game: Two teams, one on each side of the dividers, all standing behind the three-point arch. The object is to toss rolls of TP into the basket throwing only from the three-point line. Make sure to teach students on how to properly toss TP so that it unrolls as it flies through the air. This makes for a HUGE mess, but when else will students get to through TP around church? Play the game below to ease clean up
A point is scored only if a stream of toilet paper is strung from the net to the floor on one teams side of the divider. Unrolled TP can only be retrieved for your team's side of the divider.
Who's Lines Cover Up the Most This game is to be played right after the one above. Teams remain as they are, but elect one member to be wrapped up like a standing mummy. The team with the most completely wrapped mummy is the winner. Sponsors choice.
Who's Your Neighbor? This is a great get to know you game that our youth like to play even when they know everyone in the circle. You start with a chair for every person playing (less one chair for the person in the middle). The person in the middle walks up to someone that's sitting down, points at them and asks "Who's your neighbor?".
As soon as they have asked the question, they count to 10 as fast as they can. The person that was pointed at must say the first names of the persons on his right AND left before the one in the middle finishes counting to 10. If they can't name both people, they are in the middle. If they succeed with naming the names, the person in the middle then asks "Do you like your neighbor?". The person pointed at can answer either yes or no (I always say there is nothing personal with the "NO" answer...it's just part of the game). If he answers yes, EVERYONE must get up and move to a different seat at least 2 chairs away from where they were sitting. If the person says "NO", then the middle person asks "WHY NOT?". The person that was pointed at then responds with some kind of answer...i.e. "because they are wearing jeans"...then everyone wearing jeans would have to get up and move. Everytime that some people move, the middle person tries to take an empty seat and the person left without a chair becomes the new middle person.
Who's Winking Anyway Everyone sits in a circle. Youth Director, or teacher, whoever is leading the group takes a deck of cards and uses only as many cards as there are players. One of the cards must be the ace of spades. Then the leader goes around the circle with the card faces hidden and has everyone draw a card and keep it hidden. Whoever draws the ace of spades becomes the 'killer'. (You can also just go around the circle with everyone's eyes closed and tap the 'killer' duck-duck- goose style.)
The object is for the killer to catch someone's eye and wink at them. When you are winked at, you must say aloud 'I'm dead' and sit quietly until the game is over. The object is for someone to be able to identify the killer before he is killed. If someone in the group thinks they can identify the killer, they must say aloud to the group they think they know who it is. If they correctly identify the killer the game is ended. If they are wrong, they too are dead. |
