The Holy Spirit's Orchard It's Your Move Road Work and Trek Groups All gather in the center of the gym, welcome, and introduction of guests, make announcements. Which Way Are We Moving Road Work & Trek Read Galatians 5:19-26 Continue: When we serve our selfish desires, we end up with all sorts of problems. Sexual promiscuity has several undesirable results. Uncontrolled anger, jealousy and alcohol abuse carry their own particular poisons. And all of them threaten a person's stability in the kingdom of God. But serving the Holy Spirit produces a different kind of fruit - fruit that will bring happiness to ourselves and those around us, fruit that comes naturally when we follow Christ and seek the Spirit working in our lives. A self-serving attitude will ultimately lead to pain. Serving others with the fruit of the Spirit will lead to joy and happiness in a relationship with God and others in your lives. Break into Journey Groups   Moving Up  Road Work Stay as a large circle Road Work group to start. Needed: apple, pear, banana, a non-transparent soft bag to hold the fruit Say: I have three pieces of fruit in this bag, and you're going to guess what kind of tree each piece came from. Handle them gently so they don't get damaged. Each of you will get a chance to guess, so keep quiet until everyone has had a chance to figure it out. Remind them again - no talking. Then pass the bag around.  Break into two smaller groups Ask: ·How hard was it to tell what kind of fruit was in the bag? ·What trees do you think the fruit came from? ·If there was a "Christian" tree, what would be the characteristics of the fruit coming from it? (Honesty, Kindness, love&ldots;) Say: Tonight we're going to talk about the fruit that shows naturally in Christians when they let the Holy Spirit live and work in them. Moving Up  Trek Needed: Dry erase marker Ask the youth to name some major auto manufacturers. Write their names at the top and across the graffiti wall to head columns, list five or six. Next ask for models from each manufacturer.  Ask:  ·Why don't we see a (model of a car) being made by (name of a manufacturer)? Say: We know that each model of car is identified as coming from a particular maker. That's kind of how it is with people. The things we do and the way we act identify who is at work in our lives. Tonight we're going to be looking at what it means to have the Holy spirit working in us. The fruit of the Spirit will be our model, we all know who our manufacturer is! Moving In Road Work  Game: Leading the Blind For the large group Needed: Card that says BAD, card that says GOOD, card that says WATER, card that says mirage Have everyone find a partner. One partner is to place their hands over their eyes while the other partner stands behind them. The partner with their eyes uncovered will be a guide. The guide's job is to guide their partner by pulling them backwards to a destination. The destinations will be Water and Mirage. Line everyone up on a line opposite where you want the mirage and water to be. This way the blind will not be able to tell which way to go ahead of time. After everyone is ready, place "water and mirage" close together on the other side of tables and obstacles. Using only the "Good and Bad" card to communicate, sponsors go around to each pair instructing them to act accordingly. Say: You are wondering around blindly in a desert. Your partner will be your only guide. Some will be good; some will be bad. Good will lead you to water; bad will lead you to a mirage. Begin. Needed: Good/Bad Fruit handouts, pens or such Form Groups of three or four. Give each group a writy thing (pen or other thing that will mark on paper). Assign half the group "Good" and the other "Bad" fruit. Say: each group is to write a product label for the passage assigned. Follow the outline on the handout. Give the groups about 5-7 minutes to create their labels then come back together in a large group and discuss each label. Moving Out Road Work  Our Daily Fruit Needed: Paper and pencils Form three groups. Hand out three sheets to each group. Assign one group Love, Joy, Peace; the next patience, kindness, goodness; the last faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Say: The fruit of the spirit should show up in our daily lives if we're living in a growing relationship wit God. Under each quality assigned to your group, give some specific examples of how that fruit shows up in your life. Give then 5-7 min. then bring then together and discuss the findings.     Moving Out Road Work  Our Daily Fruit Write out the Good fruits on the white board; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control. Then have the group discuss ways the can show that the fruit is working within them. Check off each fruit as they are discussed. Try to find examples for each. Example: Patience - "Don't hassle my sister because she spends to much time in the bathroom." Come Back together in the HFLC  Prayer and Concerns  Road Work & Trek  Needed: an apple for everyone in the group. Gather in the closing circle.  Apple of His Eye Hand each youth an apple and say: "You are the apple of God's eye. Let his Holy Spirit produce fruit in you." Join hands, right over left, and say the UMYF benediction.
