Scholarship Program

In 2016, the West Heights UMC Educational Foundation was created by a generous, anonymous church member. Through two $500,000 donations, it provides scholarships to help active West Heights youth members with educational costs.  Each year, at least 5% of the total account balance is used for these scholarships, which are available to graduating high school seniors and those continuing their education in under graduate college classes or vocational schools. In the past, depending on the number of approved applications, the individual scholarship awards have been as much as $2,000 per recipient.

The foundation is governed by a Scholarship Committee consisting of the Senior Pastor, Youth Director and three other selected members who do not have anyone eligible for the program.  The Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and approves all awards.

Scholarship applications are accepted year-round. Award checks are issued before the beginning of the fall and spring semesters (twice a year). Students may apply each year for up to 4 years.  If you are currently a High School senior, please submit the First Year Application. If you are currently in college or another educational program, please submit the Continuation Application. 

In addition to the individual scholarship awards, up to $10,000 of the available scholarship funds are designated each year for the Senior Pastor and Youth Director discretionary awards. These special scholarships are awarded to two or more recipients, in addition to their individual scholarship award which all approved applicants receive. No separate application is necessary to receive one of these discretionary awards.

Our 2023 Scholarship Award Sunday is scheduled for Sunday, May 14, 10:00 am. If you are awarded a scholarship you will be notified by or before Monday, May 2, 2023. If you are awarded a scholarship, you are required to attend the 5/14/23 service.
