West Heights UMC supports the GraceMed healthcare ministry through participation in their annual Thanksgiving Day Say Grace 5k. It is their signature fundraising event and is also Wichita’s largest, local 5K. Members register to walk, stroll, run or volunteer at this fun, family event. It's a great opportunity to get some much needed exercise before your Thanksgiving Day turkey feast, or as they say it: "Run the race then feed your face!". Most importantly, though, more than $400,000 has been raised over the first six years of this event to further their mission "To show and share the love of Jesus Christ by providing compassionate, accessible, high-quality health care for residents in the communities we serve". 100% of these funds went to support the ministry of GraceMed. GraceMed believes our community’s potential is immeasurably expanded by improving the health of our most medically under-served residents. That’s why GraceMed is dedicated to delivering nothing less than the very best care to thousands whose access to healthcare is limited either by their economic resources or the neighborhood where they live. GraceMed's services include medical, dental, vision, educational & outreach, pharmaceutical and spiritual care. Quality of care is of the utmost importance to GraceMed and as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), their care must meet or exceed measurable standards of care established and monitored by HRSA. In recent years, GraceMed has served nearly 1 in every 10 people in the Sedgwick County area. To learn more about GraceMed, please click here.
Upcoming Opportunities To Serve
The GraceMed 5k is a once-a-year event occurring on Thanksgiving Day morning around 9am. People serve through cash donations and/or registration in the event itself. Anyone can serve and make a difference right here in Wichita. If you're interested in seeing what other opportunities to serve are coming up, please click here.
Where is the Race?
The race occurs in Midtown, one of Wichita’s most historic neighborhoods, at the main GraceMed facility (see below).
