Overview

West Heights UMC is a long-time, loyal servant of the United Methodist Open Door organization and its Community Food Ministry.  Each week, West Heights members purchase and deposit suggested food and personal hygiene items in a drop-off area at the church.  Those items are picked-up and delivered to Open Door weekly by a rotating group of dedicated people.  West Heights has donated literally tons of items over the years, all of which have been distributed to those in need in our local community.  To learn more about this program, please click here.

Upcoming Opportunities To Serve

Although West Heights receives most donations on Sunday mornings during worship, you can drop off items any time the church office is open.  Anyone can help by donating needed items.  If you would like to help deliver donated items to Open Door, we would love to have you!  Please click here and we will be in touch!  Also, Tim Stead, Volunteer Coordinator at the Open Door food ministry, needs more volunteers to help at their east 21st facility.  The volume of people in need has increased to the point that they need more people once or twice a week to help with filing, doing in-take, working reception, and handing out food.  If you can help out, please call Tim at 267-4201 and he will set you up to shadow their volunteers to determine what would be the best fit for you.  Tim says "Thank You!"

What's In Your Bag?

Each month, West Heights issues a "UMOD Food Challenge", asking people to purchase and donate a specific kind of item.  Please click here to see our current "challenge" and those coming up.
