West Heights UMC members, in partnership with Inter-Faith Ministries, have been called for many years to feed the homeless at the Warming Souls Winter Overflow Shelter.  The colder months of the year are especially difficult, and can be potentially life-threatening, for the homeless. Inter-Faith Ministries, comprised of people representing many faith traditions in Wichita, operates the Warming Souls Winter Overflow Shelter for the homeless in Wichita.  Anyone desiring to stay at the shelter for a night can sign up at the Inter-Faith Inn after 6:00 pm each day.  The Shelter typically opens on November 1st and remains open through March.  Many of those homeless actually work but are unable to get to The Lord’s Diner for an evening meal before it closes.  That's where West Heights UMC and other support groups come in - to provide a basic meal in the evening for these people.

Upcoming Opportunities To Serve

West Heights provides dinner at the Warming Souls Winter Overflow Shelter at least several times each year in the January-March time-frame.  There are opportunities to serve in a number of ways: purchase food, prepare food at the church or deliver and help with serving and clean-up.  If you are interested in helping, please click here and we will put you in touch with the person in charge.  At other times of the year, there are many other opportunities at West Heights to participate in hunger-related outreach programs.  Please click here to see what service opportunities are coming up soon!
