Reports to: Business Manager
Payroll Type: Contract – Per Event, Non-Exempt, Part Time (1099)
Hourly Range: $35 per Event
Expected Hours: Part-Time (2–4 hours/week; primarily Sundays 9:00–11:15 a.m., with occasional special events)

Position Summary
The Nursery Attendant provides care and supervision for infants through preschool-aged children during Sunday morning worship and special events. This role supports the Children’s Ministry by offering a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment where each child is valued and cared for. The Nursery Attendant helps ensure that all safety, health, and church policies are followed while creating a welcoming atmosphere for young children and their families.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide a safe, clean, and loving environment for infants and preschool-aged children

Meet the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of children, including those with special needs

Engage children in age-appropriate activities such as music, art, play, and reading

Maintain order and cleanliness in the nursery space

Supervise children during worship and special events, including transitions to and from children’s programming

Assist with playground supervision and other activities as needed; when nursery is not occupied

Communicate supply needs, repairs, or concerns to the Children’s Director​

Required Qualifications

At least 18 years of age

Experience working with young children and basic knowledge of child development

Ability to bend, lift, stoop, and physically care for children

Flexible with scheduling and responsive to program needs

Willingness to complete Safe Gatherings training and background check

Christian commitment and respect for the values and mission of West Heights UMC

Preferred Qualifications
-
Certification in CPR, First Aid, or child abuse prevention training
-
Familiarity with church nursery or early childhood settings
-
Ability to communicate clearly with children, parents, and church staff

Demonstrated care and enthusiasm for working with children and their families
