Payroll Type: Contract / Exempt (1099)
Hourly Range: Starting at $20.00
Expected Hours: Part-Time (Approximately 10 hours/week)
Position Summary
The Visitation Pastor provides compassionate spiritual care to members and friends of West Heights United Methodist Church who are facing illness, hospitalization, crisis, or life transitions. This part-time, contract role involves direct pastoral visitation, coordination of the Congregational Care Team, and occasional leadership in worship. The Visitation Pastor serves as a consistent pastoral presence, embodying the church’s commitment to care and connection.
Primary Responsibilities
Pastoral Visitation
● Provide emotional and spiritual support to parishioners during hospital stays, health crises, and other urgent circumstances
● Visit members in their homes, care facilities, or other locations as appropriate
Congregational Care Coordination
● Support, encourage, and guide the volunteer Congregational Care Team
● Help monitor care needs, maintain communication, and ensure coordinated follow-up
Worship Participation
● Be present for Sunday worship, building relationships and offering pastoral care to attendees
● Lead or assist with monthly worship and communion services at Presbyterian Manor or other care facilities
Team Collaboration and Communication
● Communicate regularly with the Lead Pastor and Business Manager about care needs, visitations, and updates
● Attend staff or care coordination meetings as requested
Required Qualifications
● Pastoral training and experience (lay or ordained; all denominational backgrounds welcome)
● Deep sense of compassion, maturity, and emotional intelligence
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills
● Reliable transportation for home and hospital visits
● Willingness to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics
Preferred Qualifications
● Familiarity with United Methodist theology, polity, and pastoral practices
● Experience in chaplaincy, counseling, or pastoral care settings
● Knowledge of community resources for spiritual or social support
